Science-Based Mushroom Cultivation Training Held in Assam’s Orang to Promote Women’s Self-Reliance

Udalguri-Sonitpur, July 4: A two-day training workshop on scientific mushroom cultivation commenced at Orang in Udalguri district on July 4, with the aim of equipping women with practical skills to generate sustainable livelihoods through mushroom farming.

The programme was jointly organised by the Udalguri District Agriculture Department and the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) under the 47 No. Mazbat Legislative Assembly Constituency. Around 30 women from the Orang area took part in the workshop.

The training focused on scientific techniques of mushroom cultivation, covering production methods, disease and pest management, preservation and marketing. The initiative is intended to encourage women to become economically self-reliant by creating additional income opportunities through scientific mushroom farming.

The inaugural session was attended by Block Technology Manager Ziaul Ahmed, Assistant Technology Manager Lohit Rabha, resource person Chakan Chandra Bora and progressive farmer Namita Chahariya. The speakers conducted detailed technical sessions on different aspects of mushroom cultivation and shared practical knowledge with the participants.

Members of the Bodd Industrial Cooperative Society actively participated in the workshop, contributing to the successful conduct of the training programme. The organisers expressed hope that the knowledge gained during the sessions would encourage more women to adopt mushroom cultivation as a viable income-generating activity.
