Manipur Police Rescue Two Assam Men Held Over Financial Dispute, Arrest Three KCP (PWG) Cadres for Extortion

Imphal, July 5: Manipur Police have rescued two men from Assam who were allegedly held captive over a financial dispute and arrested three suspected members of the proscribed KCP (PWG) outfit during separate operations conducted across the state, officials said.

The rescue operation was initiated after Titabar Police Station in Assam alerted Manipur Police that an individual had allegedly been confined at Khamsom in Senapati district in connection with a financial transaction. Acting swiftly on the information, security personnel traced the victims to Changta village under Lungchon Maiphai Police Station in Ukhrul district and rescued them on July 3.

The rescued individuals were identified as 29-year-old Kasob Kachari and 33-year-old Ajay Gogoi, both residents of Assam. Police said they were allegedly being held as collateral in relation to the financial dispute.

In a separate crackdown on July 4, Manipur Police apprehended three active cadres of the banned KCP (PWG) from multiple locations in Imphal East and Imphal West districts for their alleged involvement in extortion activities.

The arrested persons were identified as Ningombam Ajitkumar Singh alias Abung alias Khagemba (46) of Singjamei Makha Khongnang Pheidekpi in Imphal West, Laishram Surjit Meitei alias Kadamba (43) of Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai in Imphal East, and Laishram Birjit Singh alias Khuman (35) of Keishampat Thokchom Leikai in Imphal West.

During the operation, police seized a Honda Activa scooter bearing registration number MN-01AL-4757 along with other miscellaneous articles. Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the accused persons’ activities and identify any additional links.
