Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday clarified that there is no proposal to discontinue the use of the Bodo language in the proceedings or any other official business of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he had been informed by the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly that no such proposal was under consideration.
Sarma emphasised that the Bodo language is an integral part of Assam’s cultural heritage and identity, stating that it represents the history, traditions and aspirations of the Bodo community while enriching the state’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the language, the Chief Minister said every possible effort would continue to be made to preserve, promote and strengthen Bodo so that it continues to flourish for future generations.
The clarification comes amid concerns over reports suggesting that the Bodo language would be withdrawn from Assembly proceedings. The Chief Minister categorically stated that no such move has been proposed.
