Guwahati, July 6: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 5 reviewed proposed development projects around the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, where the state government is planning a series of infrastructure and sports-related initiatives to enhance the existing facilities.

During his visit to the project sites, Sarma said the government is considering the upgradation of the Sarusajai Stadium and the adjoining sports hostel while also exploring development projects on nearby land. He said the government would table the Assam Tourism and Development Registration Act, 2024 (Amendment), which seeks to simplify the registration process for hotels and homestays. The proposed amendment will also facilitate the repeal of the colonial-era Sarais Act, 1867.

“Through this, the registrations of hotels and homestays will be done. We will repeal the Sarais Act, 1867,” Sarma said.

The chief minister also announced that the government would introduce an amendment to the Assam Land Revenue Regulation, describing it as a “powerful amendment Bill” to Chapter 12 of the legislation.
