Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the state government distributed 1.34 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of rice free of cost to nearly 70 lakh families during July under its food security programme and announced that subsidised masoor dal and sugar will be reintroduced from August 2026.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, “Anna Sewa Se Jan Sewa is our commitment to every household,” adding that the initiative is inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Sarma, the government supplied a total of 1,34,237 MT of rice free of cost to around 70 lakh beneficiary families across Assam during the month.
He further announced that subsidised masoor dal and sugar will once again be made available through the Public Distribution System (PDS) from August 2026, offering additional support to eligible households.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to strengthening food security, Sarma said the “Anna Sewa Se Jan Sewa” initiative is aimed at ensuring essential food items reach every household across the state.
