Guwahati: In a major turn in the ongoing investigation into the death of celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, five individuals, including Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, have been remanded to judicial custody. The other accused—Sandeepan Garg, and two of Garg’s personal security officers, Nandeshwar Bora and Paresh Baishya—were also sent to custody following their court appearance.
Mahanta and Sharma were brought to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Guwahati under tight security after the completion of their CID custody. Their appearance drew significant public and media attention, with security agencies maintaining strict vigilance around the court premises, underscoring the sensitivity and public interest surrounding the case.
Senior advocate Mintu Saikia confirmed that none of the accused have filed for bail so far. Sources indicated that Mahanta and Sharma may be transferred to Baksa District Jail in Mushalpur, although they will initially be lodged at Guwahati Central Jail until final arrangements are made.
Before being transferred, all five accused are scheduled to undergo medical examinations at Pan Bazar Police Station as part of standard judicial procedures.
The CID, which continues to lead the probe into the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death in Singapore, has maintained that the investigation remains at a critical stage. The court is expected to review developments and consider further action in the coming days, as calls for justice for Zubeen Garg continue to grow across Assam.
