Congress MLA Joy Prakash Das has urged the Assam Government to enhance financial assistance for families affected by the recent floods in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat districts, calling for stronger relief and rehabilitation measures.
Das demanded that women beneficiaries of the Orunodoi scheme in the three flood-affected districts receive six months’ worth of financial assistance in a single instalment to help them recover from the disaster.
He also called on the state government to provide compensation of ₹1 lakh to every flood-affected household, stating that thousands of families had suffered extensive losses to their homes, property and livelihoods.
The legislator further sought an increase in ex-gratia assistance for the families of flood victims, urging the government to provide ₹10 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person. He said the existing compensation was insufficient given the scale of the devastation caused by the floods.
Das appealed to the government to adopt more comprehensive relief and rehabilitation measures to support affected families and help them rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the disaster.
