Union Home Minister Amit Shah on July 29 reviewed the flood situation in Assam during a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and assured the state of continued support from the Centre for relief, restoration and rebuilding efforts.
Assam has recorded 75 flood-related deaths so far this year, while more than 3.32 lakh people continue to be affected by the floods.
Sharing details of the conversation on X, Sarma said the Union home minister called to assess the progress of relief operations in the flood-affected state.
“Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji telephoned me a short while ago to review the ongoing relief efforts in the wake of the #AssamFloods,” the chief minister wrote.
According to Sarma, Shah sought an update on the ground situation and assured him that the Central government would continue to provide “every assistance required” for relief, restoration and rebuilding activities in the state.
The chief minister also said the Union home minister reaffirmed that “all agencies and resources of the Central Government are at the disposal of the people of Assam during this difficult time.”
Sarma thanked Shah for his “continued support and unwavering commitment to the people of Assam” as the state continues to deal with the aftermath of the floods.
The latest conversation was the second review conducted by the Union home minister with the Assam chief minister within a week. Shah had earlier spoken to Sarma on July 23 to assess the flood situation and discuss the Centre’s assistance for ongoing relief operations.
