NAGAON, Aug. 9: An elderly woman died after allegedly falling into a water-filled room at Dighliati village in Mahguri under Juria Police Station in Assam’s Nagaon district following a dispute over a piece of land.
The deceased was identified as Sahura Khatun, reportedly aged above 60.
According to local allegations, Aminul Islam and Hanufa Khatun had allegedly constructed a concrete boundary wall around another family’s homestead in connection with a land dispute. The wall reportedly obstructed rainwater drainage, resulting in water accumulating around and inside the house.
The elderly woman allegedly fell into the accumulated water inside the house and died. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been established.
Juria Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Further details are expected to emerge after the inquiry.
The incident has caused concern in Dighliati village, with questions being raised over the alleged land dispute and the circumstances that led to waterlogging at the affected household.
