Ahmedabad SOG Seizes 5,050 Codeine Syrup Bottles in Illegal Supply Probe

The Ahmedabad Special Operations Group (SOG) has seized 5,050 bottles of codeine phosphate-based cough syrup allegedly being distributed through an unlicensed network involving a company in Mizoram.

According to officials, the investigation began after the SOG received information that a company was allegedly supplying codeine-based cough syrup to several states in North India without a valid licence.

During the probe, investigators found that consignments had been sent to a company in Mizoram, which was also allegedly operating without the required licence. The seized medicines were packed in 34 cartons.

ACP, SOG, SS Ninama said a case had been registered against the alleged supplier and recipient company under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Officials identified the alleged owners of the supplying company as Hiren Kantilal Patel and Parsh Vora. The Crime Branch is now investigating the wider network to determine how long the alleged operation had been running, identify other individuals involved and establish whether similar consignments were supplied to other states.

Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the medicines and determine the extent of the alleged distribution network.
