Assam’s Hojai Police arrested four alleged drug traffickers and seized around 28 kg of cannabis during an anti-narcotics operation, officials said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Suman Deb Barma, Pabitra Deb Barma, Rekha Deb Barma and Sibani Deb Barma.
According to preliminary information, the accused allegedly brought the consignment from Tripura to Hojai aboard the Narmada Express, which was travelling towards Narengi.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police intercepted the alleged traffickers and recovered the cannabis from their possession.
The seizure comes amid intensified operations by Assam Police against the transportation and distribution of narcotic substances across the state.
Police have launched further investigation to establish the source of the consignment and identify other persons who may be linked to the suspected drug trafficking network.
