NDPP Merges with NPF to Form Unified Regional Political Front in Nagaland

Kohima: In a landmark political development, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has formally resolved to merge with the Naga People’s Front (NPF), creating a single, unified regional political entity in Nagaland.

The decision was taken during the 6th General Convention of the NDPP, held at the Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima on Saturday. The convention saw participation from party leaders, delegates, and members representing various parts of the state.

Following extensive deliberations, the house unanimously adopted a set of resolutions under Article X of the NDPP Constitution, endorsing the NPF’s merger proposal. The NDPP described the NPF’s offer as an “unconditional, mature, and well-calibrated move” aimed at fostering unity and strengthening the regional political movement under the NPF banner — one of the oldest regional parties in the country.

The resolutions emphasised that the merger would reinforce regional solidarity, uphold the spirit of Naga unity, and contribute meaningfully to addressing the long-standing Indo-Naga political issue. The party reaffirmed its commitment to the vision of moving “Towards a State of Excellence,” noting that the unification would amplify the collective aspirations of the Naga people.

Delegates at the convention expressed full confidence in the leadership of NDPP President Chingwang Konyak and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, crediting their political foresight and statesmanship for guiding the party to this historic milestone. Members also pledged their unwavering support to ensure a smooth and successful transition of the merger process.
