Akhil Gogoi Demands CBI Probe into Zubeen Garg’s Death, Calls It a ‘Fight for Justice’

Guwahati: Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi on Saturday paid a heartfelt tribute to music legend Zubeen Garg at his cremation site in Sonapur, urging the state government to ensure a swift and transparent investigation into the singer’s untimely death.

Addressing a large gathering of supporters and mourners, Gogoi laid out three key demands to the Assam government.

First, he called for the transfer of the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), terming the ongoing probe “unsatisfactory and mishandled.”
Second, he stressed that the investigation must take place at the location where the incident occurred, and not elsewhere.

Finally, he demanded strict justice, declaring, “Whoever killed Zubeen should be hanged. If this was a conspiracy, every person involved must face life imprisonment.”

Standing before the crowd, Gogoi said, “This is not just a crematorium site; it is a place of justice for Zubeen. The people of Assam will not rest until justice is served.” He then joined the gathering in chanting, “We want justice!”

Gogoi emphasised that the assembly was not merely a memorial or floral tribute but a call for accountability and a demand for truth. He warned that if the government failed to act decisively, public protests would intensify across Assam.

Reflecting on the struggles faced by artists, Gogoi remarked, “Artistes like Zubeen dedicate their lives to keeping us happy, even while enduring their own hardships. If we cannot stand with them in their time of need, how can we call that justice?”

The emotional gathering concluded with Gogoi and several fellow artists joining voices to sing Zubeen Garg’s iconic song “Mayabini,” marking a poignant end to the tribute.
