Tripura CM calls for recognition of Manikya dynasty’s legacy

AGARTALA, August 19: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said the contributions of the Manikya dynasty, particularly those of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, must be recognised and preserved as an integral part of the state’s history.

Saha made the remarks after paying floral tribute to Bir Bikram’s statue at Zero Point in Agartala on his 118th birth anniversary.

The Chief Minister alleged that the previous Left Front government had failed to give adequate recognition to the Manikya dynasty and Bir Bikram for their contributions to Tripura’s development.

Saha highlighted Bir Bikram’s efforts to promote harmony and cooperation between tribal and non-tribal communities, saying his vision contributed to unity and social cohesion in the state.

He also recalled the Maharaja’s visits to several foreign countries, saying his exposure to the outside world broadened his outlook and influenced his approach to administration and development.

Saha said Bir Bikram played a pioneering role in the development of Agartala and Tripura, including the establishment and strengthening of civic institutions.

The Chief Minister said the present government had taken initiatives to restore the Manikya dynasty and Bir Bikram’s place in the state’s history and ensure recognition of their contributions.
