In a spectacular showcase of live music and talent, the rock band NOVO from Assam was crowned the winner of the “Ticket to Hornbill – India’s Biggest Band Battle 2025”. The grand finale, held at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, on the evening of Friday, October 17, saw the rising stars secure the coveted title, earning them a performance slot at the prestigious Hornbill International Music Festival 2025.
The national-level competition brought together some of the country’s most promising bands, all vying for the top spot. NOVO’s victory was cemented by their high-voltage performance and undeniable stage presence, which successfully captivated both the panel of judges and the audience in attendance.
The podium finishers included Juxtaposed from Bengaluru, who was named the 1st Runner-Up, and Akhanda from Sikkim, who secured the 2nd Runner-Up position. Both bands delivered power-packed sets that highlighted the vibrant diversity of India’s independent music scene.
Beyond the main title, the event also acknowledged individual musical brilliance with several special awards:
- Best Keyboardist: Akhanda (Sikkim)
- Best Drummer: Novo (Assam)
- Best Bassist: Juxtaposed (Bengaluru)
- Best Guitarist: Akhanda (Sikkim)
- Best Vocalist: Stereo Groove (Nagaland)
Further adding to the night’s recognition, top music brands presented Choice Awards:
- Sennheiser Choice Award: Thunder’s Cave (Meghalaya)
- Ibanez Choice Awards: SoHumble (Delhi) and Mood Station (Mizoram)
Presented by Bhikharam Chandmal – North East and hosted by the Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland, the event was lauded as a significant celebration of India’s musical diversity. This initiative by TaFMA is part of a broader vision to establish Nagaland as a vibrant hub for music, creativity, and cultural collaboration, uniting artists from different corners of the country on a shared stage.
