DULIAJAN, Aug 30: Duliajan College welcomed its new batch of students with a day-long Freshers’ Welcome programme that combined academic achievements, innovation and cultural performances on Saturday.
The programme, organised by the Duliajan College Students’ Union with support from the college community, began with Principal Dr Lok Bikash Gogoi hoisting the college flag, followed by Vice-Principal Jyoti Singh Pathak paying tribute at the martyrs’ memorial.
Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jiten Hazarika, the chief guest, inaugurated five student-developed products and five services during a review meeting on the fifth-semester internship programme under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
As many as 343 fifth-semester students completed internships in July across 22 fields at organisations including Oil India Limited, NEEPCO, APL, Assam Skill University and various NGOs. Hazarika praised the college for translating NEP 2020 into practical learning and encouraged students to pursue innovation.
The main welcome ceremony featured a Sattriya performance by fresher Tanvi Buragohain, the release of the sixth issue of the English Department’s annual journal DiscourseZ and the presentation of the Indra Prasad Buragohain Award to Zoology student Niraj Thakur as the best science-stream graduate.
A talent-search session was also held for the freshers, with Aakash Phukan of the Commerce Department and Tanvi Buragohain of the Geography Department named Best Freshers.
The programme concluded with cultural performances by students and a musical performance by singer Bhaskar Apchowal.
