Allegations of irregularities in the registration of Class 9 students at a private school in Assam’s Gauripur have sparked public concern, with residents demanding an impartial inquiry by the Dhubri district administration and Education Department.
Residents alleged that students studying in Class 9 at Bidya Mandir, a private school near Beparipatti in Gauripur, were being registered for Board examinations under the names of other schools. They claimed that of the 33 Class 9 students at the institution, 20 were registered under South Point School in Sapatgram and 13 under North East Global School in Dhubri.
School patron MR Jodder reportedly said the institution provided formal education only up to Class 8 and that Classes 9 and 10 were conducted as coaching classes. Residents, however, questioned the explanation, claiming that students regularly attended Classes 9 and 10 at the school.
The school, established in 2016, reportedly follows the CBSE curriculum but does not have formal CBSE affiliation and lacks certain basic infrastructure, including a playground.
Tension also arose recently following allegations that a teacher made an obscene gesture towards a Class 9 female student on the school premises. Police intervened and brought the situation under control.
Residents have urged the Dhubri District Commissioner and senior Education Department officials to investigate the alleged registration irregularities and examine the functioning and compliance of private schools in the district.
