NAGAON: Juria Police in Assam’s Nagaon district arrested a man in Kerala for allegedly hacking another person’s social media account and using it to post a threat to kill Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in exchange for Rs 2 crore.
The accused, identified as Rashidul Haque of Dhing Chapori in Juria, was arrested in Kerala, police said.
According to police, Haque allegedly hacked the social media account of Mobarak Ali of Gadaimari in Juria and posted a message threatening to assassinate the Chief Minister for Rs 2 crore.
During questioning, Haque reportedly told police that he committed the act to take revenge against Ali over a personal dispute.
Haque allegedly told police that Ali had lured his wife into a relationship and eloped with her, leaving behind Haque’s differently-abled child. He also alleged that his wife had taken Rs 5 lakh with her.
Police have launched a further investigation into the alleged hacking, the threatening social media post and the circumstances surrounding the threat.
