DULIAJAN, Aug 31: Oil Green Energy Limited (OGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Oil India Limited, has signed agreements with four municipalities in Haryana to develop facilities that will convert municipal waste into compressed biogas and electricity.
OGEL signed Memoranda of Understanding with the municipal authorities of Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar and Ambala in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and senior officials.
The four proposed projects are expected to process a combined 5,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily and produce 70–75 tonnes of compressed biogas and around 50 MW of electricity each day.
The proposed Gurugram facility will have a processing capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day, followed by Faridabad at 1,600 tonnes, Ambala at 900 tonnes and Hisar at 500 tonnes.
Under the proposed system, recyclable materials will be recovered, while organic and biodegradable waste will be processed into compressed biogas. The remaining non-recyclable dry waste will be used for electricity generation.
The projects are aligned with the Government of India’s GOBARdhan–National Circular Bioenergy Scheme 2026, which promotes the conversion of organic waste into biogas and other clean energy sources.
The agreements also mark OGEL’s expansion into low-carbon energy through bioenergy and waste-to-energy projects, alongside Oil India’s traditional oil and natural gas operations.
