Manipur Needs Neutral Government for Lasting Peace, Says Congress Leader Meghachandra Singh

Manipur needs a government that is seen as neutral by all communities and does not provide political protection to violence, Congress Legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh said on September 2.

Describing Manipur as an “active volcano”, Singh said the continuing conflict had created perceptions that political leadership was aligned with competing community interests and armed-group narratives, undermining the government’s credibility as a neutral authority.

He called for a clear state policy based on no political protection for violence, no selective justice and no legitimisation of armed intimidation. Accountability, he said, must apply equally to everyone regardless of community.

Singh argued that restoring public confidence in the neutrality of the state was essential for lasting peace and a durable political solution, adding that every victim must have access to justice irrespective of their community.
