When the couple’s room remained locked from inside until 8 in the morning, the neighbours went to check on them. On looking through an open window, the neighbours reportedly saw Manju Devi lying on a bed in a pool of blood. Rudra Thapa was also seen inside the room, apparently injured in the neck. The neighbours immediately informed the Sootea Police about the incident.
A team of Sootea police reached the site, and in the presence of a magistrate, broke open the door and entered the room. The bodies of the husband and wife were found lying on two separate beds. Police suspect that Rudra Thapa killed his wife and subsequently took his own life by slashing his neck with a sharp knife. A sharp knife, suspected to have been used in the crime, was recovered from the room. Sootea Police have launched a preliminary investigation leading into the incident. The bodies were taken into custody in the presence of the magistrate and sent for autopsy.
