The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has warned against any alleged attempt to threaten, intimidate or obstruct its executive members involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the Bordumsa-Diyun area of Changlang district.
AAPSU president Meje Taku said the union would not remain a silent spectator if its members faced intimidation while carrying out their responsibilities during the electoral-roll revision.
The warning followed allegations by AAPSU of bogus, illegal and allegedly ineligible names in electoral rolls in the Bordumsa-Diyun area. The union demanded door-to-door and entry-by-entry verification of all doubtful entries before the rolls were finalised.
AAPSU also raised concerns over alleged entries involving members of the Chakma-Hajong and other refugee communities, calling for strict scrutiny under applicable electoral laws.
Taku said the union would oppose any attempt to undermine the identity, constitutional safeguards and electoral interests of Arunachal Pradesh’s indigenous population. AAPSU also said government officials, elected representatives or public functionaries found facilitating, shielding or influencing the enrolment of ineligible persons should be held accountable.
The students’ body called on the SIR Committee and district administration to ensure transparency, proper documentation and thorough verification of disputed entries before the final electoral rolls were published.
AAPSU said its teams would continue monitoring the SIR exercise across Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in areas where it believed discrepancies required further scrutiny. It said any alleged irregularity or manipulation would be brought before the competent authorities and placed in the public domain.
The union maintained that the electoral-roll revision was linked to democratic integrity and the constitutional interests of the state and said its vigilance would continue until the process was completed transparently and lawfully.
