Nagaon/Guwahati: Devotees, Vaishnavas and Aai-Matris of Batadrava Than in Assam’s Nagaon district staged a protest on Janmashtami, demanding the restoration of the Batadrava Police Station and stronger security arrangements around the historic religious site. Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva, witnessed the protest as devotees raised concerns over what they described as administrative changes affecting the area. The protesters said the Batadrava Assembly constituency, development block, Zilla Parishad and Satra Gaon Panchayat had all been affected by recent administrative changes.

The protesters maintained that the removal of the police station had heightened concerns over law and order and the safety of the historic Vaishnavite site as well as local residents. They appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene and restore the police station. The protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not addressed. Residents of Salaguri and Narowa Satras also participated in the demonstration along with office-bearers of Batadrava Than, including Namgowa, Gayon-Bayon, Sutradhar, Palideuri, Hatimota and Muktiyar.
The protesters raised slogans urging the Chief Minister to “restore our existence” and reiterated that a dedicated police station was essential to maintaining security in the area. The demonstration was held on Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna, adding significance to the protest at one of Assam’s most important centres of Vaishnavite heritage. The protesters said they would continue to press for the restoration of the police station until the government responds to their concerns.
