Guwahati: A special tribute was paid to late Arup Chakraborty, a founder member of New Art Players (NAP) and a distinguished playwright, director and actor, on the occasion of his 90th birth anniversary today, through a drama programme organised at the NAP auditorium on September 5, 2026. The programme, organised in association with Muktimangal, began with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp and offering of floral tributes before the portrait of late Arup Chakraborty. Members of his family were present on the occasion.

In his inaugural address, NAP President Ajoy Dutta highlighted the invaluable contribution made by late Arup Chakraborty to New Art Players as well as to the field of theatre in the state. NAP Vice-President Mallika Barua also fondly recalled his contributions and memories.
Two short plays were staged as part of the programme. The first play, “Tini Bhadralok”, written and directed by Dr. Chinmoy Chakraborty, featured Dr. Jayanta Das and Dr. Chinmoy Chakraborty. This was followed by ”Priyo Bandhu”, written and directed by Naren Patgiri, featuring Chanku Niranjan Das and Namrata Sharma.
