Wild Elephant Kills Assam Police Personnel in Goalpara

GOALPARA: A police personnel was reportedly killed in a wild elephant attack in Assam’s Goalpara district during the night, amid continuing man-elephant conflict in the area.

The deceased was identified as Amzad Ali, posted at the 17th Assam Police Battalion (17 APBN) in Dakurvita.

According to preliminary information, Ali was returning to his duty location when he encountered a lone wild elephant. The elephant reportedly grabbed him with its trunk and trampled him, leaving him critically injured.

He was immediately taken to a hospital in an unconscious condition, but doctors reportedly declared him dead on arrival.

The incident again highlighted the continuing threat posed by human-elephant conflict in Goalpara, where encounters between wild elephants and people have repeatedly resulted in casualties.

Further details on the incident and any subsequent measures by the Forest Department were awaited.
