Moran Police Arrest Two for Posing as Lawyers, Police to Extort Money

DIBRUGARH, Sept 6: Moran Police arrested two persons for allegedly posing as lawyers and police personnel and threatening members of the public with fake criminal cases to extort money.

Police said the accused allegedly demanded money from people by identifying themselves as advocates or police officials and threatening them with false cases. Moran Police registered a suo motu case and apprehended the two in connection with the alleged fraud and extortion.

The arrested persons were identified as Ranjan Gogoi, 28, of Parashani Habi in Moran, and Subhash Agarwala alias Tibliwal, 55, of Shantipur.

Police were investigating the alleged racket to identify other persons linked to it and trace the financial transactions involved. Further legal action would follow based on the findings.
