SHILLONG, Sept 6: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress has raised concerns over uncertainty surrounding the admission and academic future of students selected under the Meghalaya State Quota for MBBS at P.A. Sangma International Medical College & Hospital (PIMC), USTM, for the 2026 academic session.
The organisation said its concerns followed a communication from USTM to parents indicating that final admission formalities were linked to the resolution of financial and fee-related issues between the institution and the Meghalaya Health Department.
The Youth Congress said students who secured seats through the official admission and counselling process should not be affected by financial or administrative differences between the government and PIMC/USTM.
It urged the state government to provide written assurance that all 2026 State Quota students would complete admission without losing an academic year. It also sought uninterrupted classes, clinical training, examinations, internships and hospital exposure for students from previous batches.
The organisation called for an assessment of PIMC’s academic, clinical and infrastructural capacity and a contingency plan if the institution was unable to meet its obligations.
It also sought clarity on whether the notified annual fee of ₹4.95 lakh would remain applicable to 2026 State Quota students and, if a revision was proposed, the legal basis and competent authority for such a change.
The Youth Congress urged the government, PIMC/USTM, affected students and their parents to hold an immediate meeting to resolve the matter within a defined timeframe. It called on the Chief Minister and Health Department to intervene, stressing that students should not be adversely affected by the dispute.
