KAZIRANGA, Oct 24: Domesticated elephants from different parts of Assam are being transported to Kaziranga National Park ahead of the launch of elephant safaris on November 1, as the UNESCO World Heritage Site prepares for the 2026-27 tourist season.
The elephants are arriving from areas including North Guwahati, Goalpara, Sipajhar and Mangaldai, travelling along National Highway 715 through Kaliabor towards the national park.
Their movement along the highway has attracted the attention of residents, with several people stopping to watch the animals being taken to Kaziranga ahead of the safari season.
Elephant safaris remain a key attraction for visitors to the park, which is internationally renowned for its population of the greater one-horned rhinoceros. The rides allow tourists to explore designated areas and observe the park’s landscape and wildlife.
Preparations are underway to accommodate domestic and international visitors as tourism operators gear up for the new season. The opening of elephant safaris is expected to draw wildlife enthusiasts to the park and support Assam’s wildlife tourism sector.
Situated in the Brahmaputra Valley, Kaziranga is known for its grasslands, wetlands and rich biodiversity, making it a major wildlife tourism destination in the Northeast.
With elephant safaris scheduled to begin on November 1, the park is preparing to welcome visitors for the 2026-27 season.
