Bajali: Gold ornaments worth around Rs 2 crore and cash amounting to Rs 16 lakh were allegedly stolen from a jewellery store in Pathsala, Bajali district, in the early hours of Monday. The theft took place at a Maa Manasha jewellery store, where the unidentified miscreants allegedly damaged the CCTV cameras before entering the premises and carrying out the burglary. The incident has triggered concern among local residents and traders in the busy commercial town, particularly as Pathsala has witnessed theft-related incidents in the past.

Following the incident, several local organisations, including the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Bajali District Students’ Union (AASU), Chambers of Commerce, Pathsala Bazar Committee and Hindu Parishad, Assam, called for stronger security measures in the town. The organisations urged the authorities to intensify night patrolling and strengthen police surveillance, especially in commercial areas. They also appealed to the Pathsala Municipal Board to install CCTV cameras at strategic locations across the town.
Local traders and residents said effective surveillance and regular night patrols were essential to prevent such incidents and assist investigators in identifying those involved in the burglary. The theft has once again raised questions over security arrangements in Pathsala’s commercial areas. Police are expected to examine available evidence, including CCTV footage from surrounding areas, as part of the investigation. The incident comes as concerns over the safety of jewellery stores and other high-value businesses continue to grow in the town.
