Tura: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, West Garo Hills police have arrested seven individuals and seized large quantities of suspected narcotics and psychotropic substances in two separate operations carried out this week.
The first operation was conducted at Upper Damalgre, where a joint team comprising the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), Araimile Police, Sadar Police, and 120 BN CRPF intercepted a public bus travelling from Garobadha to Tura. Three men—Ajay Debnath (24), Niranjan Chakraborty (28), and Suman Sen (26), all residents of Tura—were detained. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 22 vials of suspected heroin weighing 2.1 grams. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
In a follow-up operation near Dadenggre, police intercepted an auto rickshaw, arresting four individuals identified as Prosonjit Dalu, Kriston A. Sangma, Sengbath Ch. Momin, and Sonu A. Sangma. The team recovered 42 strips of SP capsules amounting to 1,008 capsules weighing 388 grams, along with additional quantities of suspected heroin and P-Neitra tablets. A separate NDPS case has been registered at Dadenggre Police Station.
Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma reaffirmed the district’s firm stance against drug-related offences, stating that a strict vigil would continue to prevent the trafficking and abuse of narcotics.
