Dibrugarh: Two men suspected of being involved in cattle theft were killed and another was critically injured after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a road divider on NH-37 at Khowang in Assam’s Dibrugarh district early Saturday. The accident occurred at around 3 am near Heritage Naga Dhaba. According to preliminary information, the vehicle was allegedly carrying four cattle suspected to have been stolen from Demow Bengali village.

The deceased were identified as Arman Ahmed of Chaulkhowa and Biki Chetia of Barua Changmai village in Dimow. Chetia was reportedly driving the vehicle when it collided with the divider at high speed. Another occupant, identified as Ritu Ali, sustained critical injuries in the accident and was shifted to a medical facility for treatment.
Three of the four cattle being transported in the vehicle also died in the crash. The dead animals reportedly included a pregnant cow and two calves. Police have launched an investigation into the alleged cattle theft and the circumstances leading to the accident. A police official said investigators were also examining reports that luxury vehicles were being used to transport cattle at night. The circumstances surrounding the present incident, including the alleged theft, remain under investigation.
