Guwahati : The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised blood donation camps across the state on Saturday to mark the first death anniversary of renowned Assamese singer and artiste Zubeen Garg, collecting 1,869 units of blood. The largest camp was held at the BJP Assam Pradesh headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, at Basistha in Guwahati, where 116 units of blood were collected.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also donated blood at the Guwahati camp. He urged people to remember Zubeen Garg not only through his music but also through acts of service to humanity. “Remember Zubeen not through songs alone, but through service,” Sarma said.
BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Manas Sarania said the 1,869 units were collected through donation camps organised at different locations across the state. State ministers Ashok Singhal and Bimal Borah also donated blood at the Guwahati programme, along with BJP leaders, workers and supporters. Sarma thanked BJP workers and state party president Dilip Saikia for organising the statewide initiative.
He also recalled Garg’s contribution to Assam’s cultural and social life, saying his connection with the state and its people went beyond music. Zubeen Garg died in Singapore on September 19, 2025. His first death anniversary is being observed across Assam through cultural, memorial and humanitarian programmes.
