New Delhi: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidate Yash Dabas was elected president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) on Saturday, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post. The results followed the counting of votes for the 2026-27 DUSU elections. ABVP secured three of the four key central panel positions, with Riya Chhawdi elected secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh winning the joint secretary post.

Dabas polled 24,576 votes in the presidential contest, defeating National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who secured 22,523 votes. The winning margin was 2,053 votes. Shokeen recorded 30,615 votes to win the vice-president’s position. ABVP candidate Ishu Maurya received 16,910 votes, while NSUI’s Virr Chatrath polled 4,313 votes.
For the secretary post, Chhawdi secured 21,650 votes against NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary, who received 14,869 votes. Singh won the joint secretary contest with 16,615 votes, ahead of independent candidate Vishesh Yadav and NSUI’s Gopal Choudhary. Following his victory, Dabas said student safety would be among his priorities and called for safety audits of college hostels and paying guest accommodations. The results determine the DUSU central panel for the 2026-27 academic session.
