ULFA (I) Cadre Killed in Gunfight with Security Forces in Arunachal’s Namsai District

Namsai: A cadre of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) was killed during a fierce gunfight with security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district late on October 21.

The encounter broke out near 6 Mile when Assam Rifles personnel clashed with a group of around seven ULFA (I) militants. According to security officials, the group is suspected to have links to the recent attack on the Kakopathar Army camp in Assam.

The slain militant has been identified as Iwan Axom, also known by his aliases Konti Axom and Abhikeshwar Moran.

Security forces recovered an HK rifle, a hand grenade, and a bag from the encounter site. However, the remaining members of the outfit managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Search operations have been intensified in the surrounding areas to track down the fleeing militants. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
