Imphal: Assam Rifles personnel have detained two members of an armed group attempting to cross into India from Myanmar through Manipur’s Chandel district, the paramilitary force confirmed on Tuesday.
The operation, carried out on October 18 near Sajik Tampak, successfully prevented what officials described as an organised militant infiltration across the India–Myanmar border. Both individuals were identified as cadres of the United Tribal Volunteers Group.
Acting on precise intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles troops intercepted the duo before they could enter Indian territory. The detained individuals have since been handed over to Chakpikarong Police Station for interrogation and further legal action.
Security officials noted that Chandel district’s proximity to the international border makes it particularly vulnerable to cross-border movements, amid growing concerns that militant infiltration could further strain Manipur’s already fragile security environment.
