Security forces defuse 27 IEDs along Manipur’s Myanmar border

Security forces have neutralised 27 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) discovered along an 8-km stretch of a hilly route in Manipur’s Kamjong district near the Myanmar border, a defence official said on Friday.

The operation was conducted by the Assam Rifles and Indian Army bomb disposal teams between October 4 and 7 along the Shangkhalok-Pilong route near the remote village of Pilong.

The explosives had been concealed in bushes along the route. Security personnel deployed sniffer dogs to locate the devices before bomb disposal teams defused them.

In a social media post on Thursday night, the Assam Rifles said the operation had thwarted attempts to disrupt peace and security in the area while ensuring the safe movement of local communities living along the border.

The discovery comes less than two weeks after four Tangkhul Naga civilians were shot dead by suspected militants near Pilong village on September 24, raising concerns over security in the sensitive border region.
