Two men were arrested after Assam Rifles and Cachar Police seized 30,000 intoxicating tablets, valued at around Rs 1 crore in the international illicit market, during an anti-narcotics operation in Chiripul under Lakhipur police station in Assam.
Acting on a tip-off about suspected drug trafficking, a joint team led by Lakhipur police station officer-in-charge Shankar Dayal established a checkpoint in the area. During checks, personnel searched an autorickshaw and recovered the tablets, packed in 125 packets and concealed inside two cartons.
The arrested men were identified as Vishal Das, 24, of Shmashan Road in Lakhipur town, and Arjun Das, 26, a resident of Chiripul.
Police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Lakhipur police station. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the consignment and establish its intended destination.
