Three Bangladeshi nationals were detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Lumding Railway Junction in Assam while travelling on the Guwahati–Sairang Express (15609) during the Durga Puja period.
The individuals were identified as Bilal Hussain, Amir Ali and Hasan Mia, reportedly residents of Bangladesh’s Sunamganj district.
According to preliminary information, the three allegedly entered India around three months ago by crossing the international border through West Bengal’s Murshidabad region. They reportedly told authorities that they had paid Rs 15,000 to an alleged intermediary to facilitate their entry.
After entering India, they reportedly travelled to Uttar Pradesh and worked as labourers before being detained at Lumding.
The incident has drawn attention to allegations of intermediaries facilitating unauthorised cross-border movement. However, the circumstances of the detention, the legal action initiated against the three men and the alleged role of the intermediary remain unclear.
The RPF has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
