Meghalaya tea brand signs MoU with Dutch partner to explore overseas markets

SHILLONG, Oct 23: Shillong-based tea brand I Mei Tea has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Netherlands-based partner to explore international business opportunities for tea produced in Meghalaya.

The agreement was signed during the Reverse Buyers Sellers Meet 2.0, 2026, held on October 22. The MoU marks the start of discussions between the two parties, with further talks planned to identify potential areas of collaboration.

Founded by certified tea taster and tea sommelier Pinki Maring, I Mei Tea seeks to promote Meghalaya’s tea heritage and connect local tea-growing communities with wider markets.

Its Meghalayan Collection features teas sourced from the state and its tea-growing communities. The initiative aims to raise the profile of locally produced tea and explore ways to connect farmers with new buyers.

The proposed partnership could create opportunities for Meghalaya’s tea producers to reach overseas markets, although the scope of the collaboration will depend on the outcome of further discussions.

I Mei Tea also offers a Global Collection featuring teas sourced through suppliers from different tea-producing regions.

The brand acknowledged the support of the Meghalaya government, the Directorate of Food Processing and the District Commerce and Industries Centre in facilitating its participation in the buyers-sellers meet.

The Reverse Buyers Sellers Meet 2.0 provides a platform for businesses to engage with potential buyers and explore commercial partnerships.
