NPP forms Manipur election coordination committee ahead of Assembly polls

IMPHAL, Oct 24: The National People’s Party (NPP) has appointed Rajya Sabha MP and National Working President James P. K. Sangma as convenor and National General Secretary (Political) Mmhonlumo Kikon as co-convenor of its Manipur Political and Election Coordination Committee ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The appointments were announced in an order issued by NPP national president Conrad K. Sangma. The committee will oversee the party’s political, organisational and electoral activities in Manipur, with a focus on preparations for the Assembly polls.

According to the order, the convenor and co-convenor will work with the state leadership, elected representatives and party functionaries to assess constituency-level preparedness, coordinate campaign planning and evaluate prospective candidates.

They will also supervise coordination among the party’s state, district, block and polling station units.

The committee has been authorised to take operational political decisions within the party’s approved policies. However, proposals involving alliances, seat-sharing arrangements and political commitments must be submitted to the national president and the competent party authority for approval.

The NPP’s Central Election Committee will retain the final authority over candidate selection.

The committee will function under the overall supervision of the national president and submit regular reports and recommendations. The order took effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
