Manipur CM Launches BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week with Cyclothon

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh launched BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026 at Khuman Lampak in Imphal on November 1, flagging off a cyclothon to promote environmentally responsible living.

The weeklong campaign, organised by the state government from November 1 to 7, seeks to encourage sustainable habits in everyday life. Addressing the gathering, Singh said the initiative drew inspiration from Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote environment-friendly choices through simple lifestyle changes.

Referring to Manipur’s forests, rivers, wetlands and biodiversity, the Chief Minister stressed the need to protect the state’s natural resources for future generations. He said conservation was a shared responsibility and urged people, particularly the youth, to save water and energy, avoid single-use plastics, reduce waste and maintain cleanliness.

He also called on government departments, educational institutions, local bodies and community organisations to take an active part in the campaign.

Singh administered an environmental protection pledge and joined other dignitaries in planting saplings at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

Around 200 cyclists participated in the event. The procession started at Khuman Lampak, passed through Khuyathong Road, Babupara and areas of Imphal West and Imphal East, before returning to its starting point.

Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, senior government officials, students and other participants attended the programme.
