BJP, Tipra Motha Agree to Fight Tripura Civic Polls Under NDA

The BJP and Tipra Motha Party have agreed to jointly contest Tripura’s November 27 Urban Local Body (ULB) elections under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on November 1.

The decision followed a meeting between leaders of the two parties at the State Guest House, where they discussed arrangements for a joint campaign. Nath chaired the meeting, which was attended by BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma. Tipra Motha was represented by MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma, and MDC and former Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia.

Nath said Tipra Motha leaders had proposed a joint contest, citing the NDA partners’ united participation in the TTAADC Village Committee elections. He described the latest discussions as constructive and said both parties had agreed to fight the civic polls together.

However, he clarified that Tipra Motha’s specific proposals were still under consideration at the BJP’s party level. The party was expected to deliberate on them and take a final decision by the night of October 31.
