Tripura CM Warns Against Violence Ahead of Civic Polls

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on November 1 warned that violence would not be tolerated as the BJP reviewed its organisational readiness for the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections at a meeting in Agartala.

The meeting brought together BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, party in-charge Mrigananka Debbarma, general secretaries Chandan Debnath, Bipin Debbarma and Bhagaban Das, along with other senior leaders. Discussions focused on election preparations, coordination among party functionaries and organisational matters.

Saha also addressed reports of an alleged assault on BJP workers by a Congress worker at Khayerpur near Agartala on Saturday night. He said he would seek details and stressed that any such incident required investigation. Referring to another reported incident in Kamalpur in Dhalai district, he said he would look into the matter.

The Chief Minister reiterated that BJP workers had been instructed not to prevent opposition candidates or their supporters from filing nomination papers. He said the law would take its course in cases of violence.

BJP state president and MLA Abhishek Debroy described the gathering as a routine organisational meeting ahead of the civic polls. He said discussions would cover election activities and candidate selection. Although the candidate list had been prepared, its announcement would follow consultations with the central leadership and approval from the party’s leadership in Delhi.
