AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has condemned the alleged assault on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Ashabari in Sepahijala district and directed authorities to take swift action against those responsible.
The incident occurred a day before his statement, when BSF personnel were allegedly attacked by villagers while pursuing information about suspected smugglers, a BSF official told India Today.
Saha said violence against security personnel was unacceptable and called for firm action in accordance with the law, stressing that those serving in uniform deserved respect and protection.
The BSF official said a complaint had been lodged at Kalamchoura Police Station and an FIR registered, citing charges including attempted murder of personnel, snatching of weapons and obstructing government officials from performing their duties.
The official added that the accused had been identified but were absconding. He alleged that they were involved in smuggling and had been accompanied by associates, warning that strict action would follow.
Further investigation is underway.
