Itanagar: The Capital Police organised a 5-kilometre marathon at IG Park on Saturday as part of the National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) to spread awareness about safe online practices and rising digital threats.
Over 200 participants, including students and residents from across the Capital Complex, took part in the run, which highlighted key cyber risks such as financial fraud, phishing, identity theft, cyberbullying, and sextortion.
Flagging off the event, Capital Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar stressed the increasing vulnerabilities in the digital world. He urged citizens to remain cautious while responding to unknown calls, messages, or online links, especially those requesting money or sensitive personal details.
Basar advised the public to verify any suspicious communication before acting and encouraged them to report cybercrimes through the national helpline 1930 or the official portal cybercrime.gov.in.
Sub-Inspector W. Tangjang, Officer-in-Charge of the Cyber Police Station, briefed the participants on frequently reported cybercrime cases in the region and explained how scammers are evolving their methods to target unsuspecting users.
The marathon was part of the month-long global observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, which underscores the importance of digital responsibility and strengthening cyber safety at individual and community levels.
