Arunachal Journalists Commemorate Sixth Death Anniversary of Veteran Reporter Taro Chatung

Itanagar: Members of the Arunachal Press Club (APC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) came together to mark the sixth death anniversary of Taro Chatung, a pioneering journalist whose work laid the foundation for responsible reporting in the state.

Family members, including his wife Taro Alie Pradhan and daughter Taro Sia, joined the gathering of media professionals from across Arunachal Pradesh to pay tribute to Chatung’s enduring contributions. During the event, Pradhan shared that she is currently undergoing cancer treatment and expressed heartfelt thanks to well-wishers and the press community for their continued support.

Widely regarded as Arunachal Pradesh’s first journalist, Taro Chatung left a government position to pursue a career in reporting. His television programme News and Views became a milestone in the state’s media history, noted for its incisive questioning and unwavering commitment to truth.

Colleagues and emerging journalists remembered Chatung as a fearless voice who held authority accountable and championed democratic values through his reporting. His legacy continues to serve as a guiding example for journalists in Arunachal Pradesh, inspiring them to uphold integrity and prioritize public service in their work.

The commemoration reaffirmed the press community’s respect for Chatung’s contributions and highlighted the lasting impact of his career on the development of journalism in the region.
