Manipur Security Forces Detain Six Insurgents, Seize Weapons and Extortion Materials in Coordinated Crackdown

Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have arrested six members of banned insurgent groups during coordinated operations conducted on October 26 across four districts: Thoubal, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching. The arrests resulted in the significant seizure of weapons, various extortion materials, and communication devices, underscoring an ongoing crackdown against militant activities in the region.

One key arrest was that of Bhramhacharimayum Ratankumar Sharma, 43, alias Mangal, an active member of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA). Sharma was apprehended at his residence in Heirok Part-II, Khangarok, with officers recovering two mobile phones and two SIM cards.

In a related operation focused on addressing illicit fundraising, authorities detained Haobijam Thoibi Devi, 35, alias Chanu, an active woman cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) (KCP/PWG), in Wangjing, Thoubal district. Police reported that she was deeply involved in extortion activities within the district. Investigators confiscated 59 demand letters purportedly from the KCP (PWG), two seals belonging to the organization’s project secretary, two stamp pads, one mobile phone with a SIM card, and various other documents from her possession.

The sweep continued into Imphal West, where security personnel arrested two members of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) at Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar. The suspects, Longjam Yaiphaba Angom, 30, alias Nanao, and Oinam Henba Singh, 37, are alleged to have engaged in extorting money and threatening a range of targets, including government officials, doctors, college staff, and civilians throughout the valley areas. Officers seized a white Hyundai Verna car (registered MN05A 6564), two mobile phones, and one Aadhaar card during their arrest.

Finally, Manipur Police also detained two suspected members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL) in the Hiyanglam Terapishak Sekmaijin area of Kakching district. The arrested individuals, identified as Elangbam Lamyanba Meitei, 29, alias Abungcha, and Laishram Indrakumar Singh, 25, were allegedly involved in extortion activities. Police recovered two mobile phones and one Aadhaar card from them. The coordinated arrests across the districts signal a firm stance by authorities against the various insurgent groups operating in Manipur.
