In a significant move against the illicit drug trade, Manipur Police successfully apprehended five individuals and seized substantial quantities of contraband substances, including heroin and ganja, in two coordinated operations conducted on October 27. The arrests took place across the Senapati and Imphal East districts, leading to the registration of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The first operation was initiated by a team from the Senapati Police Station. Officers intercepted three individuals traveling along NH-2 at T Khullen within the Senapati district. The arrested suspects were identified as Mohammad Shoaib Alam (22) from K.R. Lane, Golapati, Imphal East; Sunir Phundreimayum (21) of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Thoubal; and Kh. Rafique (22) of Yaripok Bamon Leikai, Thoubal. Following a thorough search, police recovered 17 packages containing approximately 9 kilograms of contraband ganja. Additionally, three luggage bags and four mobile phones were seized from their possession.
On the same day, a separate successful operation was carried out by the Irilbung Police Station team in Imphal East. Two suspected drug traffickers were apprehended near Basikhong Bridge Road, Kiyamgei Takhok. The individuals were identified as Md Ashif Ali (18) of Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai and Md Washim Khan (22) of Kiyamgei Muslim Takhok Makha. From the suspects, police seized 36 grams of Heroin Powder No. 4.
Both incidents have been duly registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are actively underway to determine the precise source of the contraband and to uncover the full network responsible for its distribution.
