Jitendra Singh Calls for ‘Double-Engine Government’ in Mizoram to Accelerate Development

Aizawl: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday said that Mizoram needs a “double-engine government” — with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in power both at the Centre and in the state — to ensure faster development and effective execution of welfare schemes.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP office in Aizawl, Singh stated that when a state government is not aligned with the Centre, citizens often miss out on central projects and benefits. “Mizoram requires BJP representatives to usher in development,” he asserted.

Singh, who serves as the Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, claimed that BJP-governed states have consistently outperformed others in growth, governance, and implementation of welfare initiatives. Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, he said the BJP is poised to win the upcoming Dampa Assembly bypoll and expand its base in the Christian-majority state in the coming years.

He further emphasised that the NDA government has prioritised the Northeast’s development, resulting in visible progress across infrastructure, connectivity, and social sectors.

The Union Minister is currently on a two-day visit to Mizoram to campaign for BJP’s Dampa bypoll candidate Lalhmingthanga. The by-election, scheduled for November 11, was necessitated by the demise of MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo on July 21.

Five candidates are in the fray — Vanlalsailova (ZPM), R. Laithangliana (MNF), John Rotluangliana (Congress), Lalhmingthanga (BJP), and K. Zahmingthanga (People’s Conference).
