Kohima: The Principal District and Sessions Court, Kohima, has convicted Zasiitou Tsukru under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for assaulting a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty.
Delivering the judgment on November 3, Principal District and Sessions Judge Mezivolu T. Therieh sentenced the accused to one year of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000. In default of payment, Tsukru will serve an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
The case, prosecuted by Special Public Prosecutor L. Sashimongla, established the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt through oral and documentary evidence. The investigation, led by Sub-Inspector Levinuo Nyuwi of the Women Police Station, Kohima, included the examination of ten prosecution witnesses before the charge sheet was filed.
Additional Public Prosecutor Abraham commended the coordinated efforts of the police, prosecution, and witnesses in securing the conviction. He also praised the victim’s courage and reaffirmed the prosecution’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring women’s safety and dignity.
